Mentoring for Community Governance

Volunteer Wellington is proud to be hosting a Governance Mentoring Programme, for the first time in Wellington to support and strengthen community leaders in the non-profit sector.

The mentoring model has been designed to increase participants’ effectiveness in community governance by developing capability, connection and confidence. Each mentee will be matched with a mentor who has strong not-for-profit governance experience and whose skills overlap with their current needs. All mentees and mentors will be supported by the programme coordinator.

  • Mentees register their interest for the programme, specifying their personal development goals. Mentees are then shortlisted and interviewed to confirm final selection and numbers.
  • Mentors are sourced from across the community and are matched with mentees based on goals and experience.
  • Mentees and mentors receive training, orientation and six months of support, including setting development goals.
  • Programme will run from 12 September 2023 to April 2024, with a minimum of 6 x mentoring sessions (1-2 hours in length). Orientation event is on 12 September.
  • Mentees and mentors attend learning and networking meetings to strengthen the connections between all participants.
  • Impact evaluation and outcome reporting are completed at the end of the programme.
  • Who should register for the programme?

MENTEES: Anyone currently sitting on a governance board or committee with a community organisation who is wanting to grow and develop their effectiveness and confidence in their governance role (and capability for potential future roles in our community)

MENTORS: Community members with strong not-for-profit governance experience and skills, with a passion for sharing their knowledge to benefit our local community organisations.

The programme is running from 12 September 2023 to April 2024.

Spaces are limited so act now! Expressions of interest close on 7 August.
