.nz Mahi Aroha Awards 2021

Volunteer Wellington is delighted to announce the winners of the ‘.nz Mahi Aroha Awards 2021’.
These awards recognise outstanding volunteers making a positive impact in the community. This year, we had three categories that Volunteer Wellington community members could nominate for, which were:

  • Volunteer of the Year – an outstanding volunteer active in their community
  • Team Governance – recognising great Boards of community organisations
  • Employee Volunteering Community Partnership – awarding businesses that are volunteering with community members

Nominations were judged by a panel of judges from the Domain Name Commission - InternetNZ (the event sponsor), YouthLine and a Volunteer Wellington Board member. The judges had a tough job shortlisting as the quality of the nominations was superb. After hours of deliberation, they drew up a list of winners, runner ups and highly commended volunteers.
Details of the awards recipients were:

  • Volunteer of the Year winner – Nicole Barlow of Bellyful
  • Volunteer of the Year runner up – Gary Mitchell for multiple organisations
  • Volunteer of the Year highly commended – Jean Henry of Cancer Society Wellington Division
  • Volunteer of the Year highly commended – Marea Nicolle of YouthLine

  • Team Governance winner – Board of trustees for Mary Potter Hospice
  • Team Governance runner up - Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Aotearoa

  • Employee Volunteering Community Partnership winner – Curtain Bank, The Sustainability Trust
  • Employee Volunteering Community Partnership winner – MBIE (BRM)
  • Employee Volunteering Community Partnership runner up – Victoria University Library team, Panna Patel-Gould, Aimee Lowe, Emma Cullen

All of these recipients were presented their awards by Wellington Mayor Andy Foster. The awards event was held at the KPMG offices in central Wellington on 21/07/21, and was well attended with over 100 guests; representing the community, public and business sectors in the Wellington region.

We’d like to thank our sponsors InternetNZ for helping to make these awards happen. And congratulations to all the award recipients!
