Maritime Heritage Trust of Wellington manages SS Hikitia, a globally significant heavy lift floating crane built in 1926 and one of Wellington's most treasured pieces of maritime heritage. Restoring and maintaining the Hikitia requires a willing and skilled volunteer crew across a wide range of abilities and trades.

This volunteer opportunity involves joining Saturday restoration and maintenance working parties from 9am to 4pm at least twice a month, with tasks ranging from descaling, painting, and general preparation through to welding, carpentry, museum artefact preservation, rigging, and rope work. Newcomers are warmly welcomed at any level of experience.

What you'll bring:
• Any practical, trade, or heritage preservation skills (welding, carpentry, painting, rigging all valued)
• Physical fitness for hands-on restoration work
• Willingness to turn up and contribute whatever your level of experience
