Christ Church Taitā 1854 is the oldest church in the Wellington region and the oldest complete building in Wellington, a taonga that has stood for over 160 years and is cared for by the Preservation Society. Restoring and maintaining this significant building is a labour of love, and the Society relies on community volunteers to keep the important restoration work moving forward.

This volunteer opportunity involves supporting the interior fit-out of the Visitor Centre and surrounding grounds, with tasks including working with Gib board, plaster, and insulation, as well as outdoor work such as digging trenches and laying paving. All work is supervised by an experienced, qualified person, and young people are especially welcome. The timing is flexible and can be arranged to suit the volunteer's availability.
