Walking Companions for Older People - Hutt Valley
Hutt
Age Concern Wellington Region Trust champions the rights and active wellbeing of older people across the Wellington region, believing that every older person deserves to be a thriving, respected part of their community. Regular physical activity and outdoor time are vital to healthy ageing, and a walking companion makes that possible for older people who need a little support.
This volunteer opportunity involves accompanying an older person on a one-hour walk each week in the Hutt Valley, providing transport by car to a suitable flat walking area when needed, and attending support group meetings. Volunteers must hold a current driver's licence with vehicle insurance, and bring a warm, encouraging presence to every outing.
What you'll bring:
• Current driver's licence and a reliable, insured vehicle
• Good communication and active listening skills
• Fluent English preferred
You might be a great fit if you are:
• Patient, warm, and encouraging
• Reliable and consistent
• Positive and uplifting
Training Provided: Details to be confirmed with the organisation.
