Volunteer Wellington is the namesake and main office of the greater organisation. We have been supporting and championing volunteering in Wellington since 1992!
About Volunteer Wellington
Every year, we connect thousands of people with meaningful volunteer opportunities while supporting more than 300 community organisations, charities, and grassroots groups that rely on volunteers to deliver essential services.
We take a people-centered approach to volunteering. We support both individuals looking to volunteer and the organisations that rely on volunteers to deliver their services. Our mahi focuses on making volunteering accessible, inclusive, and impactful for everyone involved. We also provide comprehensive support to community organisations through personalised consultancy, volunteer management training, strategic planning, and networking opportunities.
Our model is based on deep community relationships and 34 years of experience. It is not a one-size-fits-all approach, but one that evolves alongside the sector. Organisations consistently tell us that our services are essential. Volunteers tell us they feel seen, supported, and inspired.

Volunteer Opportunities in Wellington
Lead guided walking tours of Wellington, sharing the city’s stories and history with visitors and locals. Full training and route notes provided.
Help run the Clothing Room at Suzanne Aubert Compassion Centre, sorting donations and assisting visitors to find suitable items.
Support youth aged 10–18 in Karori through positive relationships, games, and activities. Mon/Wed/Fri afternoon shifts available.
Help with retail sales at the Vinnies Porirua shop, welcoming customers, sorting donations, and maintaining the shop floor. No experience needed.
Coordinate volunteer onboarding, retention, and support for New Zealand Film Collaborators. 2–5 hours per week.
Provide casual support with Google Sheets formatting, cleanup, and admin tasks for Bhakti Lounge. Fully flexible, as-needed basis.
Collect surplus food from Wellington eateries on trolleys and return it to The Free Store for redistribution. Weekday afternoons, casual commitment.
Guide refugee and migrant clients through structured assessments to identify their skills, needs, and employment readiness. 1–2 hours weekly.

Read poetry aloud to elderly residents at Te Hopai Hospital in Newtown, one-on-one or in small groups. Flexible timing.
