Volunteer Porirua builds the capacity and capability of community and voluntary organisations throughout Porirua by connecting people with meaningful volunteer opportunities and supporting organisations to develop strong volunteer programmes.
About Volunteer Porirua | Te Puna Tautokotia
Volunteer Porirua Te Puna Tautokotia opened in central Porirua on 24 August 2001 (the first International Volunteer Year), our first branch outside of Wellington city. This was a timely development, as there was a real demand for volunteers in the Porirua region and the then-team wanted to acknowledged the expense of travelling to Wellington.
Working closely with local organisations, businesses, and volunteers, we help strengthen the community sector and create positive outcomes for Porirua communities.
Our focus is on collaboration, practical support, and long-term community impact. By helping organisations engage volunteers effectively and making volunteering more accessible, we contribute to a stronger, more connected Porirua.

Volunteering Opportunities in Porirua
Listen to clients, research their rights, and explain options at CAB Porirua. One 3-hour shift weekly. Full induction and monthly training.
Deliver one-to-one English tutoring in a learner’s home in Porirua for 1–2 hours weekly. Full training provided, 6-month commitment.
Provide driving support for Salvation Army Porirua, collecting and delivering essential items and transporting clients. Own vehicle, flexible hours.
Drive for Salvation Army Porirua Community Ministries, collecting and delivering essentials and transporting clients. Own vehicle required.
Provide operational support at the Salvation Army Tawa Family Store, sorting donations and organising back-of-house. Flexible hours.
Be the face of Oasis Community Cafe on Wednesdays and/or Thursdays, providing warm hospitality. 11 am – 1 pm. Barista training available.
Repair and paint donated bikes at the Green Bikes workshop in Porirua, making them roadworthy. Fridays, 10 am – 3 pm.
Manage and grow social media for Porirua Pasifika Community Patrols, creating engaging content and attracting new volunteers.
Answer calls at the Porirua Samaritans centre, providing confidential, non-judgmental listening support. One 3-hour shift weekly, full training.
Assist with Saturday brunch for elderly residents at a Porirua care facility, helping in the kitchen or dining room. 10 am – 11:30 am.
